Smolpad 1.3.3 released: tags, counts, and resize improvements

Hey everybody. I really appreciate all the early feedback and support for the app’s launch. Smolpad 1.3.3 is out on Mac, iPhone and iPad. If you have not updated yet, it is waiting in the App Store.

Screenshot of version 1.3.4 (yet to be released) of Smolpad which shows the new Outline panel for notes.
Sneak peak at the Outline feature coming soon.

Below you’ll find details on our latest release:

Tags. Type #ideas anywhere in a note and it becomes a chip you can tap. Browse every tag from the tag button, filter the list down to one, and autocomplete offers tags you have already used. Tags are just text in your files: nothing hidden, nothing extra to manage.

Word and character counts. In the status bar on the Mac, and on iPhone and iPad a floating pill that takes your theme's colors and rides above the keyboard while you type. Each count has its own switch in Settings.

German and French. The whole app (well mostly), translated by people who actually use it in those languages. (Thanks volunteers! 💖) If something reads wrong to you, reply to this email. That is how the last round of corrections got found.

The Mac panel resizes. Drag its edge and it keeps the size you leave it, this time and every time after. A note opened in its own window resizes from the corners like any other Mac window. Tip: Double-click the toolbar row to maximize the window.

Two new app icons, Smolpad Lemon and Smolpad Travelers. You can also switch the whole interface between Chonk, the hand-drawn set, and San Francisco, Apple's own symbols, in Settings under Appearance.

A few fixes worth naming: dragging notes to reorder them works again on the Mac and the macOS 27 beta has additional fixes including the transparent strip that was across the panel.

Coming up next

Outline of your note. The version in testing lists every heading in the note down the right side of the editor, and clicking one jumps to that section. On iPhone the same button opens the list as a sheet.

More custom icons! It arrives alongside thirteen new editor themes and five new app icons.

A price change, from earlier this month. Smolpad Pro's lifetime option is now $29.99, down from $49.95. Enough people said the old price was too high for what a note-taking app should cost, and they had a point. The subscription is unchanged at $1.49 a month or $14.99 a year, and the free tier stays free.
